The lychee is an evergreen tree of medium size, which can reach a height of 12 m. It forms a dense rounded crown. The fruit is an ovoid, heart-shaped or almost round drupe about 2.5 cm in diameter or larger. The outer part (epicarp) is deep pink to red, smooth or rough textured with bumps; fine and easy to remove. The mesocarp (interior) is formed by a juicy white and translucent pulp, with a sweet and fragrant flavor. In the center is the seed surrounded by a hard endocarp.
