SiCar Farms Shares Its Sustainability Practices with Students from Universidad de Colima

As part of our ongoing commitment to environmental education and sustainable development, SiCar Farms had the pleasure of participating in an initiative organized by the Universidad de Colima, aimed at sharing eco-friendly practices with local high school students.

The program, held at Rancho El Peregrino, is part of the university’s academic efforts to connect students with real-world examples of sustainable and ecological business practices. It brings together local companies that are actively working toward a greener future, allowing them to present their experiences and methods to groups of students.

A Hands-On Sustainability Experience

Our Agroecology Team led a special session focused on the key environmental practices that drive SiCar Farms’ operations. During the talk, students learned about:

  • Our in-house composting system, which plays a crucial role in reducing waste and returning nutrients to the soil.
  • Our beekeeping efforts, which support both pollination and biodiversity in our growing areas.
  • Biological pest control, including the use of beneficial insects such as green lacewings (Chrysopidae) as a natural alternative to chemical pesticides.
  • The development and use of biofertilizers and biorepellents, designed to nourish crops and protect them in harmony with the environment.

Educating for the Future

The event welcomed small student groups in an interactive and open-air format. These sessions are a vital part of how we see our role in the community—not only as growers but also as educators and collaborators in building a more sustainable future.

At SiCar Farms, we firmly believe that education and transparency are essential for driving meaningful change. Collaborating with the Universidad de Colima gives us the opportunity to inspire young minds and highlight the importance of environmental responsibility in agriculture.

We are deeply thankful for the invitation and look forward to continuing our participation in educational projects that foster stronger ties between businesses, schools, and the community.

Let’s keep growing knowledge and sustainability together.
